Skybet Sportbook Review

The Skybet brand was created back in 2002 and established itself as one of the UK’s premier bookmakers soon after. Often seen as a challenger brand to the traditional bookies, Skybet used their huge media platform as part of the Sky group to plug their online offering, using many brand ambassadors in the process. A further emphasis on their online and mobile experience helped Skybet become the first choice bookie for many, as their reputation continued to grow.

In recent years the brand has continued to boost its reputation through various high-profile sponsorship deals including the naming rights to the  English Football League (EFL). The top three divisions outside of the Premier League carry the Skybet name with all the teams in the Championship carrying a Sky Bet logo on their sleeves. This coupled with the charismatic Jeff Stelling as the face of the brand has kept Sky Bet at the forefront with its core audience.

As well as sports betting, players can navigate to their many other gaming websites to enjoy casino, poker, bingo, lotto and live casino offering. Fans can also enjoy their popular, free to play, Super 6 prediction game and enter the Fantasy Football competition.

Getting started with Skybet

To kickstart your journey with Skybet, you can take advantage of their new customer offer which is currently ‘£20 In Free Bets When You Place A £5 Bet’. This can be seen on their homepage in the rotating carousel where they house various other promotions.

Skybet – Homepage

Simply click through to their offer page where the terms and conditions are displayed and then hit the ‘Continue’ button to start the registration process.

Skybet – New Customer Offer

Unlike other providers, the steps to sign up appear in a widget styled section on the right where you supply all your details. New customers are required to provide some personal information and set up their new account with a username, six digit pin and answer to a security question. This is a straightforward process and takes no more than a couple of minutes.

Skybet – Registration Pages

You can also make your first deposit as part of this process by providing your card details and choosing your deposit amount. The payment went through immediately and the account was now funded for play.

Skybet – Deposit Confirmation

Skybet deposit options & terms

Just prior to making our first deposit, we expected to see an extensive list of flexible payment methods as per other leading providers. Unfortunately we were only given the option to pay by debit card and this remained the case when we tried to find an alternative. There were logos showing PayPal as an accepted method onsite but digging into the help sections showed they disabled this option. This was further confirmed by their live chat team, which was something of a disappointment. The current accepted payment methods are :

  • Visa Debit
  • Visa Electron
  • Mastercard Debit
  • Maestro
  • Solo
Skybet – Payment Options

The minimum amount per deposit is currently set to £5 with no defined maximum. Skybet will not charge for these transactions although it should be noted that your payment provider may. Some card companies may regard betting transactions as “cash” and can attach a fixed and/or interest charge from the date of payment so you should check just to be sure. Banks may also charge a currency exchange commission if you’re depositing in a different currency, or a transfer commission. Again, please check the terms with your provider as this will not be reimbursed in any way by Skybet.

In most cases, Skybet’s verification is fully automated but there may be times they require additional documentation to confirm any new customers are who they say they are and satisfy all eligibility criteria. They must be able to verify your full name, date of birth and address before your first deposit can be made. One document must show a photo of your face with the other a confirmation of your address. Some of the most common ID’s and documents have been listed with a full outline provided.

Valid photo ID / Passport / Driver’s licence

Proof of address – utility bill or copy of bank statement – must be less than 3 months old

Proof of payment/account ownership

Bank statements, pay slips, or certified documents – must be less than 6 months old

How to submit your documents:

The quickest and most convenient way is to provide Skybet with your proof of ID and Proof of Address through their NetVerify® by Jumio service.

To do this simply login to your account and open “My Account”. Select “Start Verification” and you’ll be prompted to either upload your documents directly or to email them through.

If you don’t wish to do this, then you can also email your documents directly to [email protected]

Verification can take up to 72 hours but is typically done between 5-24 hours.

Skybet withdrawal options & terms

For withdrawals, the same payment options apply from when you deposited. You can use your debit cards to request a withdrawal of funds with the minimum amount set at £10. There is no maximum amount stipulated but large requests may require additional documentation to be provided if further security checks need to be satisfied.

Please be aware that when looking to make a withdrawal, any bonuses credited to your account must have satisfied all wagering requirements and qualification criteria before they can be released as cash. There may be times you feel the balance you can withdraw and that which is showing on your account are different and in many cases will be down to this reason.

Skybet sportsbook bonus offer

All eligible players who have signed up to Skybet can take advantage of their new customer bonus offer when depositing for the first time. The headline offer we are reviewing is currently ‘£20 In Free Bets When You Place A £5 Bet’

In order to claim, you must go through the following steps :

  1. Place a £5 wager on a single or each way bet on any Skybet market at odds of 1/1 (evens) or greater
  2. Once your initial wager has been settled, your free bets will be credited as two £10 free bet tokens
  3. Free bets are non-withdrawable and free bet stakes are not included in any returns

Bonus terms & conditions

As well as the main qualifying criteria listed above, there are some additional terms to be aware of in order to be eligible to claim the new customer offer. We have summarised these below.

  • You must bet a minimum of £5 in a single bet. An accumulation of smaller stakes will not count
  • All staking requirements must be met within 30 days of the account registration date
  • Although Skybet only accepts debit card payments, they have still outlined in their terms and conditions that those depositing through Neteller or Skrill will not qualify. We have listed this in case alternative payment methods are introduced in the future.

Additional bonuses & promotions

Skybet have been generous in giving extra bonuses and customers can access these by going to the ‘Promotions’ link on the left hand side navigation.

Skybet – Promotions

There are various price boosts, in-play bonuses, cashbacks and event specific offers to ensure there is something for everyone. Existing customers can further enjoy a £5 free bet every week when they join the Skybet Club and opt in.

Skybet – Existing Customer Offer

Simply spend £25 or more across events over the week (these can be in any increment) on selections at odds of 1/1 (evens) or greater. Once this threshold is reached, you will receive a free £5 bet. Players can track their progress in unlocking this bonus by visiting the Skybet Club page.

One of Skybet’s standout competitions is the Super 6, which gives players a chance to win £250k! Simply guess the correct scores on a set of 6 games chosen by Skybet and the cash prize could be yours. As this is free to play, it creates a sense of excitement and keeps users flocking back to the site.

Skybet – Super 6 Competition

Not content with just offering up £250k each week, Skybet have given players the chance to win a further £25k if they refer a friend who goes on to win the cash prize.

Skybet – Super 6 Refer A Friend Scheme

Still not satisfied? Wel the excitement doesn’t stop there as players can also get involved in the Sky Sports Fantasy Football League which is a fun and interactive way to follow the football season. Those who play get the chance to pick a team worth £100M and based on player performance across various metrics, can pick up points. This will equate to weekly and monthly prizes for those who are successful. The creation of the games is excellent and highly intuitive to get you started. Use the various stats and tools to help you pick the best players to build your teams each week and be in the running for a prize.

Skybet – Fantasy Football

You can stay up to date with any new offers by regularly checking Skybet’s bonus and promotions page.

Skybet Sportsbook

Our initial perception of the sportsbook was that it was functional without the buzz and energy seen across other leading sites. There are plenty of sports, markets and offers and navigating through the site was easy due to the layout. But the stunning visuals and excitement associated with Sky’s sports channels isn’t quite replicated, although we were more interested in seeing the value and ease of using the site.

Customers can find the headline offers in the rotating carousel at the top with quick links and featured markets underneath. You can click on the star icon next to the sport of your choice to make it a favourite and have it more accessible on the page moving forward.

The depth of sporting markets was very good as we counted over 30 at the time of this review. These ranged from Football, Cricket, Tennis, Golf and Horse Racing through to international sports such as American Football, Aussie Rules, Baseball and Basketball. Many leading sites now have odds available for political and novelty markets and we found Skybet to be no different. There was a market for political betting which was extensive and didn’t just focus on the presidential race in America but state elections as well. Virtual sports were well represented with horse racing, speedway, greyhound racing and football all available.

Betting & in-play markets

After exploring the site, we wanted to delve into the markets and assess how easy it was to find and place a wager.

We worked our way to the football homepage and all the upcoming fixtures were laid out across various leagues. Although the games were legible, the layout wasn’t aesthetically pleasing and felt a bit clunky. The text font used was basic and much of the alignment was out of place. Unlike other providers, it wasn’t easy to identify the games from the football homepage.

Skybet – Football Homepage

Going through to the ‘Competitions’ sub-tab offers a bit more structure and Skybet have outlined the additional price boosts they have available on each fixture.

Skybet – Football Competition Page

This was much better and allowed us to research different leagues and make selections on our fixture of choice.

Skybet – Match Markets

We were disappointed at the form overview and team stats insights as these were very basic with the data laid out over various sub-links. Other operators have invested heavily in these features which enhance the overall experience on site and we found this was lacking at Skybet. There were no obvious signs as to which markets were eligible for cash-outs and we proceeded to place the bets on selections we felt could win outright.

The saving grace was that the number of markets was extensive, with multiple price boosts which were clearly laid out. Some of these had informational statements outlining why a certain market would be a good pick based on form and stats, which was a real value add.

Skybet – Market Pages & Stats

We could see a huge range of available markets including outright winner, goalscorers, cards and corners amongst others. We decided to bet on a Brentford win and a Wolves win the following day. This brought up a bet slip to the right hand side which seamlessly populated both the singles markets as well as offering accumulated odds on our selections. This remains in-view as we scroll up and down and through other markets making it easy to add or amend selections and see the potential return for each scenario.

Skybet – Placing A Bet

Once the bet was placed, the confirmation was immediate with all the details laid out for final review. This didn’t automatically update our open bets section and we could only see this after refreshing the page.

Skybet – Bet Confirmation

Furthermore, you have to navigate to the ‘open bets’ tab at the top of the page in order to see your selections and cash-out options. This is usually available towards the betslip areas but with Skybet you navigate to the dedicated page. There was no partial cash-out option but we were happy to see that the free bet bonus was triggered upon placing our initial bet and the confirmation message was shown immediately. The free bets can be used the next time players make a selection with the option to use your bonus as part of the wager.

Skybet – Cashout Options & Bonus Confirmation

Live streaming

Skybet offers its customers the ability to view many events via a live stream. There is a dedicated page to see upcoming events. You can also see those that will stream if they have a green play button next to the market.

Skybet – In-Play Live Stream Symbol

Once you have navigated to the event of choice, look for the green ‘Watch now’ button at the top right which will open up the stream. This is not very visible and could easily be missed but it’s good to see the functionality available.

Skybet – Watch Live Stream

We looked to see how a live stream impacted the betting experience and found that the screen opens up towards the top of the page. This could have worked well as punters could scour the markets by scrolling down whilst keeping an eye on the action. We feel Skybet have missed a trick here as the screen does not remain visible once you scroll, resulting in selections being made whilst not having an eye on the event.

On a positive note, the quality of the streams were excellent and very legible on screen. The viewing area is also bigger than a lot of other bookmakers so this was a definite plus.

Loyalty & VIP programs

Players can benefit from exclusive promotions and bonuses when they opt in to the Skybet Club. The headline offer for existing players is to get a £5 free bet every week when you stake £25 or more in the defined period. Punters can track their progress in unlocking the bonus in the portal as well as access many more price boosts, cashback offers and bonuses.
