While GentingBet may still be a relative newcomer to the Sportsbook market, the parent company of Genting was launched way back in 1965. Originally a casino brand first seen in Malaysia, it has established itself as one of the best-known casinos in the UK and the world. The Genting Casino brand in the UK alone has 47 locations for, making it the largest casino operator in the United Kingdom.
Staying true it’s origins, its Head Office is still situated in Kuala Lumpur. The company and its subsidiaries employ over 62,000 people worldwide, with its activities not just limited to Casino and Sportsbook. It may possibly be the only Sportsbook or Casino operator that also has interests in biotechnology as well!
Heading over to GentingBet Sports, there wasn’t an immediate new customer offer or bonus apparent on the homepage. However closer inspection of the left hand navigation shows a promotions tab:
Rather puzzlingly, this only revealed a couple of promotions that were not related to new customers:
Not to be deterred, we went back to Google to find a new customer offer (disclaimer:we started the session with Genting Bet by clearing our cookies and browsing history). We duly found what we were looking for in the shape of a Free £10 Bet if your first selection is not a winner:
We found it somewhat disappointing that as a new customer we were not immediately offered this promotion on the homepage or promotions tab, but instead our trusty friend Google had to come to the rescue in order to secure a new customer offer.
After finally getting the details of the new customer offer, we began the registration process with a relatively straightforward form asking for our name, address, email address, username/password details and so on. Genting Casino members can also choose to add their membership card number at this stage as well:
After hitting the register button, we were informed of another bonus…but for Casino! Perhaps one to revisit for customers who are interested in both Sportsbook and Casino.
After politely declining the Casino offer, we were then given the option to set a deposit limit by day, week or month, the minimum amount being £10.
After completing the registration formalities, it’s on to making a deposit to start placing bets with! Unfortunately this is where GentingBet has a severely limited number of options compared to any other reputable online bookmaker. We were rather surprised to see that depositing by debit card was the only option offered:
The minimum deposit amount is £10, which after hitting the deposit button we found was available immediately to play with in our account. A further look at the payment method help pages revealed that only the following Debit Cards are accepted:
Curiously we deposited with a Mastercard Debit Card, so we can probably assume that should be added to the list too by GentingBet! However with options such as Neteller, Skill and PayPal missing from the list of payment methods, new customers may be slightly annoyed by the lack of variety on offer.
The only alternative we found being offered to deposit funds was an option called ‘GentingPay’. To make a deposit via this method, a customer will need to go in person to the cash desk at a Genting Casino location and inform the cashier they wish to make a payment via GentingPay. The customer will need to provide photographic ID, such as a passport or Driving Licence and give their online username. This method of deposit is fee free and funds are made available instantly, although unlike an online transaction the minimum deposit amount required is £50.
Withdrawing winnings is relatively straightforward, as payment can be requested in either £ or Euros, but has to be a minimum of £10 each time. All withdrawals will be credited back to the same card used to make a deposit and take 3-4 working days to process according to the T&Cs. There is also no charge levied for making a withdrawal.
The only alternative we found to withdrawing funds was to do so in person at a Genting Casino location. To kick off this process, a customer will need to make the withdrawal request via the “withdraw through our UK Casinos” page in the My Account section of the website and select a location they wish to collect from. Customers will then be advised via e-mail that funds are available for collection. Customers will as expected, need to show a Photographic ID to the cashier before funds can be collected (Passport or Driving Licence). This method is also fee free, but the minimum withdrawal amount is £60.
After some initial work to track down the offer, customers can benefit from a ‘up to £10 free bet’ if their first wager is not a winner. This is quite a straightforward offer to follow, for example a customer can register for a new account and place a bet for £10 on Team X to beat Team Y. If their selection is not a winner, GentingBet will award a free bet token for £10 to make up for the customer not being successful on their first bet.
As with any bonus offer, there are certain T&Cs that customers should be aware of. We found the following to be the main exclusions and terms for this offer;
With registration and the first deposit taken care of, it’s now time to explore the different sports and markets on offer. With 25 sports to choose from, including some more niche offerings such as Volleyball, Pool and Handball, there is plenty of variety to appeal to a wide range of punters. Fans of US Sports will also be pleased to note that American Football, Ice Hockey, Baseball and Basketball are also featured, adding to the very diverse feel of GentingBet.
Furthermore, there are also markets for the ever growing eSports and Virtual Sports segments. We also found markets for Politics and Specials, with Politics throwing up odds on who will be the next US President for example. Disappointingly there were no odds on Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson being offered at the time of writing, despite him being listed:
Moving on to the core Football market, we were pleased to note a comprehensive range of current and upcoming fixtures on offer. At the time of checking there were 59 Football matches to bet on, from more established leagues such as Germany, Portugal and Austria, but also more obscure leagues such as Iceland and Belarus:
Further analysis and insights are on offer via the blog pages.
Customers can read match previews, get stuck into the form guide (or sometimes lack of!) of different teams/players, and as an added bonus respected TV pundit and Journalist Guillem Balague is on hand to provide some betting tips and insights of his own on all the top Football fixtures.
The number of markets we found on offer on Football fixtures ranged from 50 at the low end of the spectrum from more obscure leagues, to 152 for a German Bundesliga fixture. Whilst not quite as high in comparison to some other bookmakers who routinely offer in excess of 400+ markets on matches from the top leagues, there is more than enough to keep the casual punter interested and entertained.
Markets are arranged under pre-defined headings such as Handicaps, Goals, Half and Corners and give quick access to the most popular bets. In this example we feel SC Freiburg to win may need the helping hand of a +1 goal handicap, so we hit the Handicaps link to reveal the following options:
Fans of in-play can also get involved, with plenty of markets on offer with cash out options, marked with what appears to be a bank note coming out of an ATM!
After taking a look at the options on an upcoming fixture from the Portugese Primeira, we decided to take a punt on the home side Santa Clara to triumph over their more formidable opponents FC Braga. Clicking on this selection opens up the betting slip on the right hand side, where inputting our bet for £10 showed the total stake and potential return:
Clicking the ‘Place a Bet’ button confirmed our bet after a couple of seconds, at which point the betslip updates to show the receipt and confirmation of the stake and potential returns should the selection be successful:
Further details of any current and previous bets can also be found by clicking the wallet icon in the top right corner and heading to ‘Transaction History’. Below is the bet just placed with an expanded set of details:
Live streaming is one area where GentingBet severely lags behind its competitors due to the simple fact it does not currently offer any live streams. The closest thing on the platform that a customer will find are live scores and statistics. They appear at the very top of the screen in the form of an electronic scoreboard and provide regular updates on only a couple of key statistics such as current match score and time elapsed:
Unlike some of the better live betting consoles that show you which team is in possession, who is attacking or defending, yellow and red cards and so on, we could only find the current match score and time elapsed on the games we observed. This is surely an area that GentingBet would need to improve upon if they are to take on the top players in the Sportsbook market.
GentingBet is a user friendly and competent alternative to much bigger online bookmakers out there and therefore should not be dismissed despite its lack of Sportsbook heritage. On the positive side it offers a good selection and depth of sports to bet on, as well as all the key markets that the average punter would want to see. Combined with a decent promotion of a free bet of £10 should a newly registered customer be unsuccessful with their first selection makes it an online bookmaker well worth visiting.
On the downside, the lack of live streaming of any events is a definite negative and we recommend they look into this in the near future. With many punters looking for an immersive in-play betting experience, GentingBet cannot expect to compete with the larger operators by offering a simplistic in-play console, rarely showing more than the current score and time elapsed in a game or event.
We also take exception with the fact that depositing options are limited to major debit cards or depositing at a GentingBet physical location such as one of their casinos. Again this is not in keeping with what other operators offer, with PayPal, Neteller and Skrill glaring omissions from the list of payment options offered. On Mobile they hardly fare much better, with both Apple and Google Pay missing from the list of payment options on offer.
