bwin Sports Review

One of the most recognisable names in online sports betting, poker and latterly casino, the bwin group of companies has been around since 1997, serving over 20 million customers annually across multiple regions and countries.

Originally known as ‘betandwin’ up until 2006 and also having a short spell as ‘Betwin’, the company began with just 12 employees when it launched its first online Sportsbook. Since then, the brand has developed into a big multinational giant, and in more recent times, they have been acquired by GVC Holdings Limited, putting them in the same stable of iGaming operators such as Ladbrokes and Gala Bingo.

Noticeable achievements in the past include sponsoring Real Madrid between 2007-2013, which really helped project bwin to a global audience and make it a household brand. They have also sponsored the Italian giants AC Milan between 2006-2010 and have been associated with the likes of Juventus and Werder Bremen in current years.

bwin Sports Registration Step 1

Step 2: Enter your first and last name and date of birth.

bwin Sports Registration Step 2

Step 3: Enter your home address, mobile number, and marketing preferences. Customers can choose to receive offers such as free bets from bwin via Email, SMS, Phone or Post, or simply leave all options unticked to opt-out of all future communications.

bwin Sports Registration Step 3

Almost there! The last part of the registration process is to either request a daily, weekly or monthly deposit limit, or choose no limit at all. There is also a final disclaimer to consent to regarding where customer funds are kept in line with the UK Gambling Commission’s requirements, tick this box if you’re happy to proceed.

bwin Sports Deposit Options & Terms

There are plenty of options to choose from, with customers able to deposit using any of the following methods:

  • Visa Debit Card
  • Mastercard Debit Card
  • Maestro
  • PayPal
  • PaySafe
  • Trustly/Bank Transfer
  • Much Better
  • Any promo code issued to the customer

bwin Sports Deposit Options

For our test, we decided to keep it simple with a Mastercard Debit Card. One thing to keep in mind is that the bookmaker will need to store the customer’s card details in order to process winnings. This could be something to note for anyone ultra-cautious about their card details being stored by a third party.

bwin Sports Deposit Page

There are several currencies available to deposit in: Great British Pounds, US Dollars, Canadian Dollars, Euros, and Romanian Leu. The choice of currency available to deposit in may be dictated by the country the customer is registered in. Current currency conversion rates are displayed by hitting the dropdown under Transaction Currency (time of writing).

bwin Currency Conversions

After inputting our card details and hitting the ‘Deposit’ button, we received a confirmation screen to show our funds were ready to play with!

bwin Sports Deposit Confirmation

Depositing minimum and maximum amounts in a single transaction are as follows (based on GBP):

  • Debit Cards: £10 minimum, £10,000 maximum
  • PayPal: £10 minimum, £10,000 maximum
  • PaySafe: £10 minimum, £1,000 maximum
  • Bank Transfer: £10 minimum, £10,000 maximum
  • MuchBetter: £10 minimum, £1,000 maximum (customers must download the app first on Google Play or Apple Store to use this option).

Skrill and Neteller were the only two major deposit options missing in our opinion otherwise, the deposit process was smooth and relatively straightforward. It is important to note that deposit methods may vary from country to country, or even by region, so players may be presented with different options.

bwin Sports Withdrawal Terms & Conditions

To make a withdrawal, customers will need to locate ‘Cashier’, which can be found under the ‘My Account’ section in the top right-hand corner of the web page.

bwin Sports Withdraw Funds

Customers will then have to choose a withdrawal method from the following methods:

  • Bank Transfer
  • Maestro
  • Visa Debit Card
  • PayPal
  • MuchBetter
  • PaySafe

Curiously, the original deposit method (Mastercard Debit Card) was not one of the options we were presented with.

bwin Sports Withdrawal Methods

Only Fast Bank Transfer and Trustly were available to use, both of which have a minimum limit of either £10 or £7.64 respectively. Unfortunately, we were exempt from using any of the other withdrawal methods unless we had made a deposit with said method in the last 180 days.

According to bwin Sports T&Cs, the quickest method of withdrawal is PayPal and Paysafecard which takes up to 24 hours. Bank transfers and debit card methods can last 3-5 working days. One huge advantage is that the sportsbook does not impose a fee for withdrawing funds. Additionally, there is no mention of any withdrawal limit, so we would assume that any balance excluding bonuses and free bets is available to withdraw, pending this condition stated on their website:

  • ‘All withdrawals are reviewed by our internal review team and must be approved. This process will take up to 2 business days. Occasionally, withdrawals may be merged in the event of previous withdrawals not being processed yet. If you have unused bonus money in your account, you won’t be able to withdraw.’

bwin Sports Sportsbook Bonus Offer

In its online sportbetting history, bwin Sports has always offered new customers a welcome bonus. When we began the registration process we were presented with a ‘Football is Back’ banner.

bwin Sports New Customer Offer

The basics of this promotion is quite straightforward and without too many onerous exclusions. New customers simply can deposit a minimum of £10 and place a qualifying bet on a sport of their choice.

For example, a punter could place a bet on a Tennis match for player X to beat Player Y, but if their selection ends up being a losing pick, the £10 ‘Backup bet’ will kick in and be credited to the customer’s account.

Bonus Terms and Conditions

As with any bonus being offered by an online bookmaker, there are certain terms and conditions attached. In the case of bwin Sports, the most significant exclusions that apply are:

  • Backup bet is restricted to new customers only.
  • Minimum deposit required is £10.
  • Horse racing is excluded from this promotion.
  • Deposits made via PayPal are excluded.
  • Qualifying bets must be at least 1/1 (evens).

Additional Bonuses & Promotions

Upon logging into our account and clicking on the ‘Promotions’ tab, we also found several other interesting promotions available, the most prominent being Coin Flip.

bwin Sports Coin Flip

Curiously, we could not see how to activate this offer or choose between black or yellow as stated in the T&Cs. We tried on a few other devices to no avail which was a shame as the offer claims to run daily with the customer being able to choose between Sportsbook, Casino or Poker prizes.

bwin Sportsbook

With over 90 sports to choose from, bwin Sports can rightly claim to be one of the biggest online bookmaker with hundreds of markets to bet on.

Just one glance at the busy homepage confirms that there is plenty for punters to sink their teeth into, although newcomers may find it slightly daunting to navigate through at first.

bwin Sports Homepage

All the mainstream or traditional sports such as Football, Horse Racing, Tennis, and Cricket are catered for, whilst fans of American sports will be delighted to see American Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Ice Hockey available as well. In fact, we found bwin Sports to be so in-depth it even offers markets on American Football at College level.

bwin Sports College Football Markets

Virtual Sports and eSports are also accessible – a growing trend with reputable bookmakers – as well as Politics and Specials having their own markets.

Overall, the range of sports and depth of markets would be hard to find at any other online sportsbook.

Betting & In-Play Markets

Whilst there is no doubt bwin Sports offers an almost unrivalled number of sports to bet on, we decided to investigate whether the number of sports on offer was also matched by the number of markets available on a single event. We chose an upcoming German Bundesliga fixture to make this assessment.

bwin Sports Football Example Markets

With over 182 markets on this single fixture, bwin Sports clearly does not lack in this department. All the common markets such as match outrights, over/under total goals, first and last goalscorer and so on are available. In addition, punters can click on the graph icon next to each fixture to bring up vital statistics for the two teams such as current form guide, previous head-to-head results, a detailed breakdown of the playing squads including season to date appearances, goals, and assists.

For punters who like to do their research before placing a bet, they will really enjoy getting stuck into the plethora of data available!

bwin Sports Head to Head and Form Guide

In-Play markets are also plentiful across multiple sports. As seen below, we found 16 markets being offered live on the following Table Tennis game.

bwin Sports Live In-Play

When it came to placing our bet, we decided to back Hertha BSC to overcome Eintracht Frankfurt after analysing the current form of the two sides and other data we found using bwin’s stats tools.

Clicking on this selection and enter a £10 stake to our betslip, we saw our odds and potential winnings confirmed.

bwin Sports Adding Selection to Betslip

Happy with our selection and potential winnings, we hit the green ‘Place Bet’ button where the bet slip updated to confirm our that our bet had successfully been placed – now we can sit back and watch the game!

Live Streaming

bwin Sports has a reputation for providing live streaming across multiple sports. We even found several Table Tennis games being streamed late at night indicating that it is available 24/7.

Simply hit the ‘Live’ icon on the top navigation and hit ‘Live Streaming’ to see what is on offer.

bwin Sports List of Live Streaming Events

When checking out one of the Table Tennis games being live streamed, we were pleasantly surprised by the video quality and sound. In addition, the window can be expanded to enlarge the viewing area, and in-play markets are offered alongside the live stream.

Bwin Sports Verdict

Considering the range of sports and markets on offer at bwin Sports, it’s hard not to like this online bookmaker. We found registering and depositing to be efficient and straightforward which will please new and seasoned punters alike. The range of depositing options available was satisfactory with the minimum deposit amount of £10 reasonable and in keeping with other reputable bookmakers.

Slightly more unclear was the advantage or disadvantage of offering a range of currencies to deposit in, even though we were registering from the UK and would automatically assume GBP would be the only option available. We would be concerned if new customers ran into additional charges, for example, using a UK-based GBP account but depositing in Euros or US Dollars and attracting fees from their bank. We’d recommend that bwin look to acknowledge and address this on the depositing page.

Placing a bet was simple and easy, and with 90+ sports on offer, bwin clearly leads the way in terms of the number of options available, catering to virtually every mainstream and niche sport. The range of markets are also plentiful, and with good live streaming options, bettors can really get into the action via in-play betting.

Moving forward, we would love to see bwin offer customers the chance to customize their homepage with the sports, markets and live streaming that they are most interested in as this would really enhance the customer experience.

Overall, we give bwin Sports a resounding thumbs up based on the site’s user-friendliness, easy registration and depositing, and its plethora of sports and markets really makes the brand stand out from the crowd.
