The National Lottery announced to donate a £600M support package. The donation is intended for charities as well as organizations that have been negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The support package will deliver funds to centers and organizations that help individuals combat loneliness and isolation and provide care for elderly citizens and mental health support in communities across the UK. The donation will also support organizations engaged in the arts, education, sports, environment, and heritage industry. Funds are expected to be distributed in the upcoming six months.
“The National Lottery has always supported projects that help people and communities across the UK to thrive,” said Dawn Austwick, the Chief Executive of The National Lottery Community Fund. She further commended how the funds available are switching focus to back up organizations of all kinds to mitigate the unprecedented pressure they are coming under as the country rallies to overcome COVID-19.
Austwick expressed hope on how this initiative will help support jobs and economic growth, as well as people who were highly affected by the lockdown. The goal of the National Lottery is to keep Britain active, educated, and entertained both during and after this epidemic.
