Online sportsbook Betway has continued its financing deal with CD Leganés. The gambling operator remains as the main sponsor for the Spanish football team during the upcoming season, despite the possible restrictions for betting firms regarding their marketing activities in Spain.
The partnership was originally signed in 2018 and now reportedly has an exit clause, should the Royal Decree on Advertising come into force. During CD Leganés’ seasons in La Liga Santander, the sponsorship was valued at approximately €1M, however, the estimate for this year’s deal is much lower since the club is playing in the division below.
Despite their relegation, CD Leganés also scored deals with KFC, a fast-food chain that will be featured on the left sleeve, Ynsadiet Laboratories on the back of their jerseys, and Dione ice cream prominently positioned on the left leg of the trousers.
Beside Leganés, seven other clubs in Spanish La Liga have betting operators as main sponsors – Valencia, Alavés, Granada, Mallorca, Sevilla, Osasuna, and Levante. According to the Royal Decree, “sponsorship in sports T-shirts or equipment will not be admissible,” with gambling companies already banned from featuring on youth shirts.
