The UK gambling operator Betfred announced that they have won an auction for MoPlay’s database, which stores the details of its former British and Irish customers. Following MoPlay’s insolvent in February 2020, Betfred has taken it upon themselves to honor balances on users’ accounts. The latter instructed MoPlay’s customers to sign up with their brand and their balances will be honored, while all open bets will be voided and stakes will be returned.
“We apologise that it has taken so long to achieve this result for you, but it was important to ensure that the operator who we came to an agreement with was highly reputable and met strict data protection and privacy standards,” MoPlay has commented in a public statement.
MoPlay suspended all its operations after regulatory bodies in the UK and Gibraltar postponed the license of Addison Global, their parent company. The main reason for such a move was fear that Addison Global lacks funds to continue paying players and affiliates. Allegedly, Addison owned over £500,000 to one of its affiliates.
Gibraltar Licensing Authority suspended the license after support from shareholders for the restructuring of the company had failed, and UKGC followed swiftly afterwards. The UKGC noted how Addison’s financial difficulties caused the inability to comply with UK licensing conditions and ordered the suspension of all its actions until further.
